RSF TRAINING SCHOOL CONCLUDES NO. 09 HELIBORNE OPERATIONS TRAINING MODULE

Special Force (RSF) is the prime element of Sri Lanka Air Force to conduct future Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in any type of terrain with the hand-to-hand coordination of SLAF helicopter fleets and sister services. RSF Training School (RSFTS) at SLAF Station Morawewa conducted many Heli-borne Operation related training exercises to train foreign and try services Elite Forces personnel to conduct future Search and Rescue missions over land and sea to evacuate distressed pilots, aircrew and civilians during air crash/ any type of natural or manmade catastrophes.
Recently, RSFTS conducted No. 09 Heliborne Operation Training Module, comprised of tower training exercises for Abseiling, Rappelling, Fast Rope, STABO, Heli Marshaling and Special Rescue Training methods to make a feasible platform to conduct aircraft training exercises in the same context. Further, same training modules include map craft with GPS handling and GPS march to find the distressed personnel in any terrain with any situation. The aircraft training exercise phase included Rapid Deployment, Rappelling, Rope Rescue, Insertion and Extraction, STABO and CASEVAC Operation using litter kit exercise, which was conducted at SLAF Base Higurakgoda.
A total number of 31 trainees, including two Zambian Air Force officers representing the General Duties Pilot (GDP) branch, a Maldives Special Force officer, four STF personnel, three SL Army Commandos, three SL Army Special Forces personnel, two SL Army Air Mobile Persons, eight SL Navy Special Boat Squadron and eight RSF personnel, successfully completed the course. Furthermore, this prominent elite force training school of RSFTS has given training to more than 43 foreign trainees up to date.
Entire training exercises were conducted under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of the Regiment Special Forces Wing, Wing Commander Sumith Bandara, who led the training programme under the guidance and direct supervision of Director General Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera, Director General Ground Operations, Air Vice Marshal Chaminda Wickremaratne and former Director General Training, Air Vice Marshal Thushara Fernando.
The closing ceremony was held on 30 September 2024, at SLAF Station Morawewa and the occasion was graced by the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Morawewa, Group Captain Hemantha Balasooriya, as the Chief Guest. Certificates were awarded to the trainees who successfully completed the training.
