SLAF CONDUCTS FIRE AND RESCUE DRILL AT AFHQ TO ENHANCE EMERGENCY RESPONSE PREPAREDNESS

The Fire and Rescue Service of the SLAF conducted a fire and rescue drill at Air Force Headquarters, Sri Jayewardenepura, today (25 October 2024).
A total of 46 SLAF firefighters and other elements participated in the exercise under the supervision of SLAF Chief Fire Officer, Air Commodore WKASW Vithana. The SLAF team demonstrated rescue tactics that included rope rappelling, showcasing their operational readiness and proficiency in firefighting, as well as in Turntable Ladder (TTL) operations. The mock drill aimed to assess and enhance the operational efficiency of the involved units and to increase awareness among Headquarters staff to respond promptly and effectively in case of an actual emergency.
The exercise was observed by Director General of Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera, along with other members of the Air Force Board of Management. The simulated incident took place on the third floor of Air Force Headquarters, providing a realistic scenario for the exercise.
