COMMANDER'S INSPECTION AT SLAF BASE RATMALANA

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, conducted the Annual Commander's Inspection at SLAF Base Ratmalana today (30 October 2024).

During the Parade, three airmen were awarded of commendation by the Commander of the Air Force in recognition of their exceptional contributions and commendable work. Their names are as follows,

Sergeant    Chathuanga SPN (Air Frame Fitter Special)
Sergeant    Wellappuli KTG (Aero E&I Fitter Special)
Sergeant    Malwenna EP (Mechanical Tool Setter & Operator I)
    
During the full-day inspection, the Commander visited Base Headquarters, No.8 Light Transport Squadron, Sports Complex and arena, the new Office Block for the No. 61 Flight was declared opened by the Commander, No. 4 VVIP/VIP Helicopter Squadron, Visited the construction site of the new Pre-School and Day care complex, Base Hospital, SLAF Welfare Project Unit, Air Field Construction Wing, No. 1 Information Technology Unit, the Air Force Museum, Aircraft Support Wing, No. 27 Regiment Wing, No. 2 Electronics & Telecommunications Wing, the Warrant Officers’ & SNCO’s Mess, the Officer’s Mess, followed by an All Ranks Lunch at the Airmen/Airwomen's Mess.

As a distinguished addition to the inspection, the Commander, accompanied by Australian envoys and the Base Commander of SLAF Base Ratmalana, Air Commodore Asela Jayasekara visited No. 8 Squadron Hangar Complex to conduct an inspection of the newly granted Beechcraft King Air 350 aircraft, provided by the Royal Australian Air Force.

Concluding the inspection, the Commander addressed all ranks and civilian employees of the Base. During his speech, the Commander emphasized the importance of the Flying squadrons and the vital roles they play during search and rescue & ration distribution operations to assist disaster management in the Nation.

Further, he explained the future reductions in the strength and elaborated paramount importance of multitasking duties with excellence, adhering to established standards, and giving one's best effort. Secondly, he highlighted that integrity, encompassing honesty and loyalty to the organization, is deemed vital for maintaining trust within the Air Force. Moreover, he stressed the importance of maintaining a work-life balance and personal discipline for all service personnel, while the organization as a whole is expected to uphold a high level of discipline while preserving legal traditions. Finally, he conveyed his appreciation to all individuals for their commitments to the SLAF.
