SLAF AND MONTANA NATIONAL GUARD SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDE CBRN RESPONSE AND EOD EXPERT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

The Programme on Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Response, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Maritime Port Recovery Subject Matter Expert Exchange between Sri Lanka Air Force and Montana National Guard Concluded Successfully at SLAF Base Katunayake.
 
The No. 49 Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosive (CBRNE) Wing of the SLAF successfully conducted the CBRN Response, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Maritime Port Recovery Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) between SLAF and Montana National Guard programme at SLAF Base Katunayake from 18 November 2024 to 22 November 2024. The programme was inaugurated with the distinguished participation of the Acting Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal Rajinth Jayawardena, as the Chief Guest. The event was organized under the guidance of the Commanding Officer of the No. 49 CBRNE Wing, Group Captain Nilendra Perera.

The event brought together participants from the SLAF and SL Navy, as well as the representatives from Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council, National Authority for Implementation of Chemical Weapons Convention, Ministry of Health, Central Environment Authority, Marine Environment Protection Authority, Airport & Aviation Services (PVT) Ltd, Sri Lanka Port Authority and Disaster Management Centre. This expertise exchange programme aimed to develop a collaborative learning environment for knowledge sharing and experience exchange in the critical fields of CBRN response and EOD operations.  

The comprehensive sessions provided an opportunity to discuss prevailing subject matters and operational challenges faced by first responders in dealing with CBRN threats and explosive ordnance. These discussions emphasized the importance of enhancing inter-agency coordination, adopting best practices and leveraging advanced technologies for effective risk mitigation and disaster response.  

Participants engaged in both theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations, displaying cutting-edge CBRN detection, decontamination and disposal techniques. This SMEE Programme reflects the SLAF's engagement to improving the professional competencies of personnel and to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders in safeguarding Sri Lanka against complex CBRN and EOD threats.
