The SLAF hosted a pivotal conference today (06 January 2025) at Air Force Headquarters to outline proposals and frameworks for three major future projects under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ National Drive. The meeting, chaired by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, highlighting the SLAF’s proactive approach toward environmental sustainability, public health and community development in collaboration with key national and private sector stakeholders.

During the conference, discussions revolved around three proposed initiatives that will be implemented under the Air Force’s leadership. The first project focuses on the development of a model school to promote sustainable practices, improved sanitation, and enhanced educational facilities. This initiative, to be undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Office of Clean Sri Lanka, will be headed by Air Commodore Vijira Senadeera. The second initiative aims to improve sanitary facilities in tourist-attractive areas in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and LB Finance. This project, led by Air Commodore Suresh Jayasinghe, seeks to elevate the standards of cleanliness and infrastructure at key tourist sites, ensuring a positive visitor experience and supporting sustainable tourism efforts. The third initiative addresses the issue of malnutrition among children, with a focus on preparing a database and providing nutritional support to vulnerable communities. This project will be implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health's Family Health Bureau and will be led by Group Captain Chaminda Herath.

The conference was attended by a ten-member panel representing various institutions, including the Ministry of Education, the Office of Clean Sri Lanka, SLTDA, the Ministry of Defence, LB Finance and renowned architect Mr. Ravindra Athukorala. Their insights and expertise were instrumental in refining the proposals and shaping the strategic direction of the projects. The event was coordinated by the Air Staff Officer III, Air Commodore Sachindra Gunewardene, who ensured the smooth execution of the discussions.

The Commander of the Air Force emphasized the importance of effective collaboration, innovation, and meticulous planning in driving these initiatives to success. He reaffirmed the SLAF’s commitment to addressing critical national issues beyond its traditional mandate, thereby contributing meaningfully to the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ National Drive.
