The Janashakthi Insurance PLC sponsored the program for the third consecutive year and this year it was awarded to hundred needy students in the age group between 10 to 17 years. The highlight of this year’s scholarship was the preference given to the children of those who were killed or disabled in action. Further, in keeping with the concept of the sponsors, the scholarships will continue to be awarded to the selected children until they complete the GCE Advance Level examination.
The ceremony, which was held in the ambient settings of the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum at Ratmalana, commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp followed by a two minutes silence in respect of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the name of the Nation. Mrs. Prabhavi Dias, Treasurer of the Seva Vanitha Unit, delivered the welcome speech. The Assistant Secretary, Squadron Leader Nadeera Thanthirige described the concept of the scholarship program.
Mr. Mahanama Dodampegama, a renowned motivational speaker addressed the scholarship recipients and passed many important and interesting hints which was definitely useful for their future. Later, Master Chamika Thibbotumunuwe, son of late Wing Commander Thibbotumunuwe delivered a message on behalf of all the children who received the scholarships.
The day certainly belonged to the children, as they were treated to a complementary visit to the Air Force Museum after the ceremony.
