SLAF BEGINS TWO-YEAR STEWARDSHIP OF NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION
11:35pm on Friday 30th May 2025
In a notable development within Sri Lanka’s shooting sports community, the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has officially taken over the leadership of the National Rifle Association of Sri Lanka (NRASL) for the 2025-2027 term. The transition of authority was formalized during the NRASL’s Annual General Meeting held on 29 May 2025 at the Sri Lanka Navy’s Lighthouse Galley in Colombo.
The NRASL functions as the national governing body for several non-Olympic shooting disciplines, including Practical Shooting, Metallic Silhouette Shooting, and Sporting Clay Shooting. These disciplines are managed independently by their respective associations, which operate under the broader regulatory oversight of the NRASL and the Ministry of Defence.
In a dignified and ceremonial handover, Rear Admiral Manjula Dissanayake formally transferred the presidency of the Association to Air Vice Marshal Ruwan Chandima. The event was attended by senior officers of the tri-services, representatives of civilian sport shooting clubs, veteran shooters, and other key stakeholders, all of whom witnessed this seamless and strategic transition of leadership.
During the proceedings, key appointments within the NRASL were officially handed over to incoming SLAF officers by their outgoing counterparts from the Sri Lanka Navy. The process was conducted with precision and care to ensure operational continuity and alignment with the shared vision for the sport’s future development.
In his inaugural address, Air Vice Marshal Ruwan Chandima, Director General of Ground Operations, expressed his sincere gratitude for the confidence placed in the Sri Lanka Air Force. He reaffirmed the SLAF’s unwavering commitment to upholding the values, integrity, and responsibilities entrusted to the Association.
This leadership transition signifies a new chapter for the NRASL, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration between the tri-services and civilian stakeholders in promoting excellence and progress in non-Olympic shooting disciplines across Sri Lanka.
