SLAF SPORTS DIVISION CONDUCTS WORKSHOP ON SPORTS SCIENCE AND ETHICS
The Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Division conducted a one-day workshop titled ‘Sport Physiology, Training Principles and Sports Ethics’ yesterday (06 August 2025) at Air Force Headquarters. The event was attended by over 140 participants, including Physical Training Instructors, sports pool players, masseurs and trainers. The objective of the workshop was to enhance participants’ theoretical and practical understanding of professional sports science.
The session on Sport Physiology was conducted by Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine, Group Captain (Dr.) Sherika Samarasinghe. Her presentation covered key areas such as exercise physiology, performance enhancement, injury prevention and recovery strategies, with a focus on the specific needs of military athletes.
The second session, on Training Principles and Sports Ethics, was delivered by Director of the National Institute of Sports Sciences, Mr. Sajith Jayalal. He highlighted evidence-based training methodologies, psychological conditioning and the importance of integrity, fair play and discipline in competitive sports.
The workshop was held under the guidance of Director Sports, Air Commodore Suresh Jayasinghe, with the aim of strengthening training standards, physical fitness and ethical conduct among SLAF athletes and instructors, in alignment with national and international best practices.
The session provided a valuable platform for participants to engage with subject matter experts, seek clarification and align their routines with current developments in sports science and ethics.
