SLAF CONDUCTS LEGAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME ON PROCEEDS OF CRIMES ACT AND MILITARY ETHICS
An awareness programme, conducted as part of the continuation of legal education for service personnel, on the ‘Provisions of the Proceeds of Crimes Act’ and ‘Ethics, Honour, Integrity, and Respect towards Military Discipline’, was successfully held today (08 September 2025) at Air Force Headquarters. The event was organized by the Legal Division of the SLAF under the guidance of Director Legal, Air Commodore Sureka Dias.
An introductory lecture on the recently enacted Provisions of the Crimes Act was delivered by Additional Solicitor General, Air Commodore MPSS De Silva, the Judge Advocate of the SLAF, who was the principal resource person in drafting the Act. The lecture covered the background, objectives and possible implications of the legislation on the military and its personnel.
The second session was followed by another insightful lecture on Ethics, Honour, Integrity and Respect towards Military Discipline, delivered by Mr. Rajeev Amarasuriya, Attorney-at-Law, the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. His address highlighted the similarities between professional ethics of legal fraternity and discipline of officers in military in upholding values, emphasizing their shared responsibility to maintain professional conduct, mutual respect and adherence to the highest standards of discipline.
The programme was enriched by the participation of Members of the Air Force Board of Management, Base Commanders and Commanding Officers, Tri-Forces Legal and Provost Officers and Officers of all other branches of SLAF.
