CLEAN SRI LANKA INITIATIVE LEADS ELEPHANT HABITAT RESTORATION IN PUTTALAM
The ‘Clean Sri Lanka Initiative' is organizing a three-day ecosystem enrichment programme for elephants in the Puttalam District from 10 to 12 October 2025. This significant environmental effort aims to restore and protect the natural habitats of wild elephants in the Tabbowa Reservoir area, thereby helping to mitigate human-elephant conflict.
The programme focuses on the removal of invasive plant species that threaten native vegetation and disrupt the ecological balance of the area. The project is jointly carried out by the Ministry of Environment, the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the Tri-Forces, the Police Department, the Civil Security Department, Divisional Secretariats and local volunteers.
Contributing to the success of the event, more than 50 service personnel, including officers from SLAF Station Palavi, participated in the programme under the supervision of the Commanding Officer, Air Commodore Nishantha Priyadarshana.
