SLAF COMMANDER ATTENDS 9TH ANNUAL ACADEMIC SESSIONS OF SRI LANKA COLLEGE OF MILITARY MEDICINE
The 9th Annual Academic Sessions of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) commenced yesterday (13 February 2026) at Waters Edge Hotel. The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd.) attended the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest. Dr. Duminda Ariyarathne, Consultant General Surgeon and Immediate Past President of the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka, participated as the Guest of Honour.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Sri Lanka’s healthcare system and emphasized the importance of maintaining foundational readiness within military medical services. Referring to the theme of this year’s sessions, “Back to Basics: Reinforcing Foundational Readiness in Military Medicine,” he highlighted the need to uphold core principles such as preparedness, ethical standards and professional competence in addressing evolving operational and security challenges. The Deputy Minister also outlined several initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and accessibility within the national health sector, including increased state investment, enhanced transparency and digitization measures to streamline services.
The event was attended by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe along with the Commander of the Army, Chief of Staff of the SL Navy, Vice Chancellor of KDU, senior officers of the Tri Forces and Health Services, the President and Executive Committee Members of SLCOMM and invited delegates.
