NO. 4 VVIP/VIP HELICOPTER SQUADRON CELEBRATES 61 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE NATION
The No. 4 VVIP/VIP Helicopter Squadron of the SLAF marked a significant milestone today (01 June 2026) as it proudly celebrated 61 years of dedicated service to the nation. The anniversary celebrations commenced with the customary working parade, which was reviewed by the Commanding Officer, Group Captain Rasanka Wijewardena.
To commemorate this year's anniversary, a blood donation programme was conducted on 21 May 2026.
Established on 01 June 1965, No. 4 VVIP/VIP Helicopter Squadron has evolved over the decades into one of the Sri Lanka Air Force's most experienced and distinguished operational squadrons. Throughout its illustrious history, the squadron has continuously expanded its capabilities and operational versatility, consistently fulfilling the trust and confidence placed in it by the nation.
Currently operating a fleet of Bell 212, Bell 412/412EP, and Mi-171E helicopters, the squadron undertakes the vital responsibility of transporting local and foreign dignitaries, including VVIPs and VIPs. In addition to this primary role, the squadron remains ever ready to conduct a wide range of operations, including Search and Rescue (SAR), Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC), medical assistance, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), reconnaissance missions and aerial firefighting operations.
