Sri Lanka Air Force women’s Kabaddi team became Champions at the National Kabaddi Tournament held at Dehiaththakandiya Mahaweli Grounds on 27th and 28th August 2011. The SLAF men’s team however were not as fortunate but managed to be placed third amongst the 14 teams which participated.

The 12 leading female teams which competed in the tournament were divided into two groups where the defending Champions SLAF defeated the Kalutara Sports Club, Navy B team, Gampaha Sport club, Dehiaththakandiya Sport club and the Army team to reach the finals as an unbeaten team. The Navy ‘A’ team qualified from the other group to play against Sri Lanka Air Force who was crowned as the National Champions for 2011.

In the finals, the Navy team fought well but not good enough to stop the courageous airwomen from making 19 points against their 9 points. Aircraftswoman Chathurani PMWW was adjudged as the best female player of the tournament.

The Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa province and the Chairman of Kabaddi Mahipala Herath graced the occasion as the chief guests.
