A group of Australians headed by International Cricket Commentator Tony Grieg arrived at the Air Force Academy China Bay for a three day tour on 3rd October 2011.
The group comprised of 33 members which included an under eleven Cricket team representing the Australian Cricket Club. Whilst taking up accommodation at the Air Force Resort at Marble Beach, the team played a twenty over friendly cricket match with a combined Eastern Province under-eleven school team to mark Australian-Sri Lankan friendship.
The combined Eastern Province team comprised of children of the three communities; Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim.
The visiting team won the toss and batted first and was all out for 86 runs. In response, the home team scored 59 runs for one wicket when the match was stopped due to bad weather. However certificates were awarded to participants of both the teams by the Acting Commandant of Air Force Academy Group Captain Prasanna Ranasinghe and Mr Tony Grieg.
The event was sponsored and organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force Academy China Bay giving an excellent exposure to the children in Eastern Province while showcasing the country’s hospitality and offering an opportunity for the visitors to experience the unique scenic beauty of Sri Lankan Beaches.
