The Change of Command at No. 1 Information Technology Wing of the SLAF Base, Ratmalana, took place today (06 February 2026). The traditional handing over/taking over parade was conducted at the Base Parade Square, where the outgoing Commanding Officer, Group Captain VPS Gunasekara MSc (Def & Strat Stu), BSc (IT), psc. handed over command to Wing Commander EMIWR Ekanayake MSc (Def & Strat Stu), Pg Dip (Def Mgt), BSc (IT), MIM (SL), psc.

The outgoing Commanding Officer, Group Captain Gunasekara will take up the appointment of Staff Officer Information Technology II at Air Force Headquarters. 

The new Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Ekanayake previously held the appointment of Staff Officer Audit & Implementation, Project Coordinator of National Education Management Information System at Air Force Headquarters before being appointed as the Commanding Officer of No. 1 Information Technology Wing.
