OPENING ADDRESS OF NO. 78 JUNIOR COMMAND & STAFF COURSE

The 78th Junior Command and Staff Course officially commenced on 3rd January 2025 at the Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay. The inauguration was marked by an opening address delivered by the Commanding Officer Group Captain VRS Vidanapathirana RSP and Bar, MSc (Def & Strat Stu), BSc (Def Stu), Pg Dip (Def Mgt), psc. The event also featured key remarks from the Chief Instructor, Senior Instructor and members of the Directing Staff, emphasizing the significance of the course and the expectations for its participants.

The 78th iteration of the course includes 26 Officers from the Sri Lanka Air Force, comprising 3 lady Officers and predominantly featuring Officers in the ranks of Squadron Leader and Flight Lieutenant. Additionally, the course welcomes two Officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, both holding the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Following the opening address, a self-introduction session was conducted by the Student Officers, providing an opportunity for familiarization and rapport building. The Chief Instructor and Senior Instructor then presented an overview of the course, outlining its objectives, structure and expectations. The 14 weeks intensive academic programme is meticulously designed to refine and enhance the leadership, decision-making and managerial skills of the Student Officers. The curriculum commenced with an introductory module on Public Speaking, aimed at equipping the officers with vital communication skills integral to effective military leadership.
