HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over the keys to 104 houses built in the Anuradhapura District under the 16th stage of the “Api Wenuwen Api housing project for war heroes” on 05th July 2014. The Ceremony was held at the Horowpathana Madya Maha Vidyalaya Anuradhapura.

The housing project was conducted under the guidance of the Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Chairperson of the Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Ayoma Rajapaksa.

Of the total number of houses handed over, 68 were for personnel of the Sri Lanka Army, 23 for the Navy and 13 for the Air Force.  Starting the event off, HE the President officially handed over the keys to two of the houses to Lance Corporal K P Karunaratna's family and to Corporal Amarasuriya's family.  Each beneficiary families was provided with a set of kitchen utensils as well.  The President also distributed school equipment and bags to the children of the area.

The Secretary to the President, Mr. Lalith Weeratunge, Secretary of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Chairperson of the Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Ayoma Rajapaksa, Members of Parliament, Governor of the North Central Province Karunaratna Divulgane, Chief of Defence Staff General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Rathnayake, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera,  Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke, Senior officers of the Armed forces and Police together with a large gathering of parents and residents of the area also attended the event.
