SLAF Station Palaly Celebrates 39th Anniversary

The 39th Anniversary of SLAF Station Palaly was celebrated on 1st January 2020.
The history of Station dates back to the 1940s. The then, Royal Air Force Kankasanturai was established in 1940s to support RAF Squadrons in World War II. After independence, the abandoned airfield was taken over by the Civil Aviation Department until it was taken over by the SLAF to establish SLAF Station Palaly in 1981.
In celebration of the anniversary, a Shramadana Campaign was conducted at Akkarai Beach with the participation of service personnel of the Station. Further, a blood donation campaign was held as well. The customary Working Parade was reviewed by the Commanding Officer, Group Captain SD Jayaweera.
A customary Get-Together to celebrate the anniversary was also conducted with sporting activities in the form of a Cricket Tournament with the participation of all Officers, Other Ranks and Civilian Staff. The All Ranks Lunch marked the end of the celebrations.
