No 3 Maritime Squadron Celebrates 1st Anniversary after Re-establishment

The No 3 Maritime Squadron celebrated its 1st anniversary yesterday (11 January 2020) after being re-established at SLAF Academy China Bay.
The Squadron was initially established in December 1971 at SLAF China Bay by the then Commander of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal PH Mendis and was operational until 1993. The Squadron was re-established in 2019 and equipped with Y-12 and B-200 aircraft for Maritime Surveillance, Search and Rescue roles.
A charity program was organized at the Revatha Orphanage, Trincomalee on 9 January 2020. A Working Parade was held yesterday at the Squadron premises. The parade was reviewed by the Commanding Officer, Wing Commander WV Premasinghe. An evening sports event was also held at the Academy Sports Arena with the participation of all ranks of the Squadron to mark the day.
