SLAF continues operations in flood affected areas

27 rescued and 25,000 Kg of relief supplies heli lifted
Sri Lanka Air Force rescued 27 individuals from flood affected areas in the North Central province today 5th February, 2011 as it continues its effort to provide flood relief.
7 SLAF helicopters were deployed for today’s operations with two Bell 212s and two Mi-17s from Anuradhapura and one each of Bell 212 and Mi-17 from Hingurakgoda joined today’s relief effort. Meanwhile a Bell 212 has been deployed in Batticaloa which is also an area severely affected by the prevailing flood situation.
A consignment of relief supplies amounting to 27,000 Kg has also been heli lifted by the SLAF to the vast numbers of families who have been displaced and are housed in temporary shelters.
Since the operation commenced yesterday, a total of 47 persons have been rescued by SLAF who continue operations in the North Central and Eastern provinces, standing by ready to assist the people.
